1. We wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time. If you have not worn an item in the last year, chances are you will never wear it again.
Donate, toss or pass it along to a friend. Your professional organizer can provide suggestions and referrals. 2. Invite a friend, whose style you admire and opinion you trust, to help you clear out your closet. Model
all of your clothes and have them help you decide what goes and what stays. Then return the favor.
3. You can increase your usable space by approximately 30% by adding another hang bar or by 50% if you add two
additional shelves.
4. No more wire hangers, ever! Use standard clear plastic hangers with metal hooks that swivel. They are more space efficient than other types, and make hanging your clothes in one direction
easier.
5. There is more than one approach to arranging the clothes in your closet. You can assemble an entire outfit on one hanger, or arrange clothes by categories, and group them by color. Chose the system that
works for you.
6. If you store your shoes in boxes, either get clear stacking storage boxes, or else tape a photo of the shoe on the end to aid in identifying them.
7. Hooks, hooks, hooks. Use them whenever
possible. Hang scarves, purses, belts, tomorrow's outfit, pajamas, etc. Use an expandable mug rack on the inside of your closet door to hang your necklaces and bracelets.
8. Remove plastic dry cleaning bags. Not only
do they take up space, the chemicals in the plastic will damage your clothes.
9. Stack sweaters on shelves rather than hanging them so they do not lose their shape. When stacking, use shelf dividers to keep them neat
and only stack them three or four high to keep them from cascading down.
10. Weed, weed, weed. Weed through your closet when the season changes.
